We want everyone who supports us, or who comes to us for support, to feel comfortable with how we look after and use any personal information they share with us. This Privacy Policy sets out how we collect, use and store your personal information (meaning any information that identifies or could identify you).

Cahonas Scotland is committed to protecting your personal information and making every effort to ensure that your personal information is processed in a fair, secure and transparent manner. We are a "data controller" for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998 and (from 25 May 2018) the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 ("Data Protection Law"). This means that we are responsible for, and control the processing of, your personal information. 

Everything we do is intended to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer. We want you to receive the information you need, whether by visiting our website, receiving emails, post or phone calls, during an awareness session, as a volunteer/fundraiser or when making a donation.

We collect information in the following ways:

When you interact with us directly
This could be when you ask us about our activities, register with us for an awareness/ education session, make a donation to us, ask us a question about testicular cancer, purchase something, apply for a volunteering opportunity or otherwise provide us with your personal information. It can also be when you phone us, visit our website, make a purchase, or contact us by post or in person.

When you interact with us through third parties
This could be when you provide a donation through a third party such as Just Giving or Virgin Money Giving.

When you visit our website
We gather general information that might include the pages you visit and which services, events or informations are of most interest to you. We may also track which pages are visited most often to help evaluate our work. We use this information to personalise the way our website is presented when you visit it, to make improvements, and to provide the best service and experience for you. Where possible, we use anonymous information which does not identify individual visitors to our website.


Information we collect and why we use it

We use your personal information to:

— Process your donations or other payments, claim Gift Aid on your donations, and verify any financial transactions.

— process Cahonas Scotland merchandise orders.

— process requests for awareness sessions.

— send your fundraising pack and event information, if you’ve signed up for a fundraising event.

— review volunteer applications.

— assist volunteers and fundraisers.

— deal with any queries or complaints.

— comply with financial and legal requirements.

Sensitive personal information

If you provide us with any sensitive personal information by telephone, email or other means, we will treat that information with extra care and confidentiality and always in accordance with this Privacy Policy. 

We will only use this information where you have given us your express consent or otherwise clearly indicated this to us (for example, by submitting your story through our ‘Testemonials’ page).

Sharing your information

The personal information we collect about you will mainly be used by our staff and volunteers at Cahonas Scotland in order to support you.

We will never sell or share your personal information with organisations so that they can contact you for marketing activities. Nor do we sell any information about your web browsing activity. However, we may share information with third parties working on our behalf: for example, financial providers assisting us with processing donations or Gift Aid.

Legal disclosure

We may need to disclose your information if required to do so by law.

Your information may be shared with us by third party organisations including fundraising sites such as Virgin Money Giving or Justgiving. Please read their privacy policies carefully to understand how they will process your information and what they share with us.

If we obtain your personal information from a third party, your rights under this policy are not affected and you are still able to exercise your rights contained within this policy.


Our website and social media may include links to websites run by other organisations. Cahonas Scotland is not responsible for the privacy practices of these other websites so please take the time to read their privacy policies carefully.

The Cahonas Scotland Privacy Policy may change, so please check it from time to time. Any change will take effect from the date the revised privacy policy is available on this website.
